Welcome

The Local Organising Committee for the International Society for Equitation Science 2011 conference takes great pleasure in welcoming you to the Netherlands.

The International Society for Equitation Science 2011 conference offers an exciting opportunity for equitation scientists, equestrian riders, trainers and coaches, media and journalists, officials and policy makers from around the world to observe practical demonstrations and engage in discussions and debates about the principles and practices in horse equitation science.

The International Society for Equitation Science conference will be held in southern Netherlands at the prestigious and well-known Academy Bartels in Hooge Mierde (www.academybartels.com) from October 26th – 29th 2011, in conjunction with the Global Dressage Forum (www.globaldresssageforum.com), October 30th – 31st 2011.

Hosted by the Academy Bartels since its inception in 2001, the Global Dressage Forum provides the international dressage community with the worlds leading public debating platform for top equestrian trainers, riders, (FEI) officials, equestrian media and journalists and dressage enthusiasts from around the globe.

Despite the Netherlands' small geographical size and 16.6 million inhabitants, it carries a very high horse population of approximately 450,000 horses, equating to nearly 1 horse per 35 inhabitants.

The Netherlands equestrian events and competitions are strongly supported by Dutch equestrian riders and handlers who successfully compete at national and international horse competitions, especially in the disciplines of dressage, jumping, driving and endurance riding.

Several Dutch elite equestrian teams compete at national and international competitions, with The Netherlands being the current world champions in the disciplines of Dressage and the Four-in-Hand competitions at the World Equestrian Games at Kentucky 2010.
