Useful Information

Language:  English is the predominant language in Ireland. The ISES Conference language is English.

Time:  Ireland is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is one hour behind Central European Time (CET) and five hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Time.

Smoking Ban:  Smoking is forbidden in enclosed places of work in Ireland.  This includes office blocks, various buildings, public houses/bars, restaurants and company vehicles (cars and vans).  Smoking will not be permitted indoors at the meeting but some hotel, guesthouse and B&B bedrooms are exempted.  Non-compliance with this ban can lead to prosecution and a fine of €3,000.

Currency and Money Exchange:  The monetary unit of Ireland is the Euro (€).  Foreign currency can be exchanged at the airport, at banks, in post offices, hotels or foreign exchange offices.  All major Credit Cards, such as Mastercard, Visa and American Express are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.  Banks are open Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.  ATMs are widely available.

Shopping:  Most shops and department stores are open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday with late night shopping on Thursday to 9pm.  Sunday opening is generally 12 noon to 6pm for most but not all.  Shops and Retail stores do not close for lunch.  Major credit cards are widely accepted.
 
Electricity Supply:  Electricity supply in Ireland is 220 Volts, 50Hz and plugs are the ‘square’ (13 amp) three pin type.  Ideally, delegates should bring their own travel adapters or alternatively delegates can purchase these items locally in Dublin.

Climate:  Dublin has a mild maritime climate.  The weather in August is usually very pleasant with average daily temperatures about 15 to 18 degrees (C) .  Evenings are somewhat cooler.  However, in Ireland there is always a possibility that it may rain!!  So be prepared and please bring light rainwear and/or an umbrella!

Internet Access:  Available in all hotels and some guesthouses – there may be a connection fee in some instances.  Free, high-speed Internet access (Wireless) will be available to all delegates at the Conference venue from the Speakers Room and surrounding areas.  To connect, you will require a wireless card installed on your laptop.
