Andrew McLean possesses a unique blend of academic knowledge and equestrian expertise. Holding a degree in Zoology and a passion for horse training, McLean embarked on a quest to unravel the most effective training methods, culminating in his PhD research titled "The Mental Processes of the Horse and Their Training Implications."

 

Throughout his illustrious career, McLean's accomplishments have been remarkable. He clinched Australia's premier Horse Trials, the Gawler Three Day Event, and represented the nation in Horse Trials in 1989. A versatile equestrian, he has excelled in dressage to FEI level, trained horses to Grand Prix, and achieved success in both show-jumping and race training.

 

With over 25 years of coaching experience, McLean's profound understanding of equine psychology has influenced some of the world's finest riders, coaches, and trainers. His expertise extends beyond traditional horse training; he co-founded the Humane Elephant Learning Program (HELP), employing Learning Theory to enhance the welfare of working elephants across Asia.

 

McLean's scholarly contributions are equally impressive. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, shaping our understanding of the animal mind. A key figure in the formation of the International Society for Equitation Science, McLean serves as Senior Vice President. His seminal work, "The Truth About Horses," has garnered international acclaim, with translations in Dutch, Spanish, and Danish. Academic Horse Training and Equitation Science, spearheaded by McLean, have become essential references in equine science education worldwide.
